Our client is a clinical stage pharmaceuticals company. They have asked us to assist them in a search for a Vice President, Global Medical Affairs.  

Major tasks and responsibilities include:
  • Leads and drives an efficient and effective GMA function providing medical oversight for all planned and budgeted activities.
  • Represents GMA at the PSC, SMT, RDMC and CMT.
  • Collaborates closely with leadership at the PSC which is comprised of (in addition to GMA): Product Management, Commercial Strategy, Clinical Development, Research, and Regulatory Affairs.
  • Working closely with the CMO and the GMA team, leads the development of product publication plans, thought leader (TL) engagement plans, medical education plans, advisory boards, medical symposia, congress activities and compassionate use/post-trial access programs.
  • Contributes to the development of key medical messaging and its translation into commercial messaging; contributes to the development of the overall communication strategy and ensures that broader company communications incorporate key medical messaging.
  • Collaborates closely with Global Market Access to deliver integrated evidence to support all product Global Value Dossiers including design and implementation of outcomes surveys and other real-world evidence projects to enhance product value.
  • Is responsible for evolving the infrastructure of people, processes and technology required to achieve GMA’s medical objectives.
  • Develops and works to continually improve GMA infrastructure.
  • Establishes metrics to assess performance and effectiveness of GMA plans, systems, and teams.
  • Ensures continuous communication between geographies and functions, with a particular focus on collaboration between GMA and Clinical Operations.
  • Ensures that medical affairs activities are conducted in compliance with appropriate financial, legal, and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops and manages global medical affairs budget.
  • Manages, coaches, develops, and mentors direct and indirect reports.
 
We seek candidates with the following qualifications:
  • A Medical degree is required.
  • Significant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting with at least 7 years in Medical Affairs with substantial rare disease experience is required.
  • Must have a history of a successful product launch, preferably in a rare disease setting.
  • Demonstrable experience in successfully leading cross-functional matrix teams is required.
  • Must have a reputation as a well-respected, dynamic team leader, player, and coach.
  • A history of developing and managing clinical studies is required.
  • Requires the ability to critically analyze research design, methods, and outcome measures.
  • Must be capable of managing shifting priorities in a rapidly changing and environment.
  • Must be a team player willing to work collaboratively across the organization.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, concisely, and can be easily understood in written materials and presentations.
  • Strong strategic thinking and track record for operational excellence is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in building and developing teams is required.
  • Must have demonstrated strength in strategic planning and tactical plan development and execution.
  • Requires appropriate knowledge of pharma guidelines and regulations and able to apply compliance knowledge to Medical Affairs activities.
  • Requires travel up to 20-30% of the time.
