Our client is a biotechnology company developing novel precision small molecule therapies to treat genetic diseases, with an advanced clinical program focused on solid tumors. They have asked us to assist them in their search for a research oriented physician to be their next Medical Director, Oncology.

Responsibilities
  • Delivers medical expertise to evaluate the clinical relevance and therapeutic potential of early-stage drug candidates, considering their mechanisms of action and potential patient populations.
  • Works closely with research teams to provide medical, disease-specific, and development perspectives into specific research programs or broader research initiatives as required.
  • Drives the development strategy, designs clinical trials, and contributes to executing the clinical development plan in alignment with the overall asset strategy.
  • Fosters strong collaborative relationships with research teams to facilitate the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical development strategies.
  • Partners with internal and external stakeholders to collaboratively design a clinical development plan that is efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality.
  • Develops an understanding of the clinical and competitive environment and works with the asset team to develop the target product profile.
  • Provides medical, scientific, and clinical development input into all program documents supporting the development plan, including but not limited to clinical trial documents such as study protocols, informed consent forms, statistical analysis plans, case report forms, clinical study reports, the investigators’ brochure, regulatory filings and submissions, abstracts, manuscripts and publications, and clinical pharmacology/translational medicine plans.
  • This position may also offer the opportunity to take on primary medical monitor responsibilities, including oversight of trial subject safety and the review and interpretation of clinical data, potentially in collaboration with and supported by a clinical scientist as the program progresses.

Qualifications
  • A Medical degree (MD) or MD/PhD from an accredited medical school is required.
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years of clinical experience with expertise in oncology.
  • Board certification/eligibility in medical oncology is strongly preferred.
  • Must have clinical or basic science research experience in industry or academia. Experience in conducting and overseeing clinical studies in either academia or industry is preferred.
  • Requires a strong understanding of targeted therapies, genetic biomarkers, and genetically defined diseases, particularly in the context of oncology.
  • Must have practical understanding of biostatistics, translational sciences, clinical pharmacology, and various scientific and technical disciplines, along with familiarity with the drug development process.
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal, both formal and informal) required.
  • The ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Requires effective skills directed toward driving collaboration, achieving results, influencing, and resolving conflicts across internal and external project teams.
  • Requires experience leading high-performing teams, including recruiting, developing, motivating, and empowering team members, with experience working cross-functionally and delegating effectively.
  • Provides clear direction and vision to team members to foster a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Drives innovation and continuous improvement within the team and organization. Maintains a proactive approach to personal and professional development of team members.
