Senior Vice President, Program and Alliance Management

Our client is a drug discovery and development company. They have asked us to assist them in their search for a Senior Vice President, Program and Alliance Management.

Major tasks and responsibilities include:
  • Oversee the development of comprehensive, integrated program plans, incorporating discipline-specific project plans and addressing both internal and external deliverables.
  • Drive strategic business decisions by aligning planning assumptions with expertise in drug discovery, development, manufacturing, commercialization, and market uptake, ensuring plans are comprehensive and achievable.
  • Apply program management tactics to:
    • Track key milestones and critical paths.
    • Manage resource demands and planning.
    • Address dependencies across plans.
    • Identify risks and implement contingency plans proactively.
  • Provide leadership during program execution by establishing processes to:
    • Monitor progress and resolve issues.
    • Escalate and address barriers to ensure timely resolution.
    • Prioritize actions and secure necessary decisions. Mitigate timeline delays and communicate updates effectively.
  • Lead or oversee Alliance Management for multi-functional contractual relationships across development, manufacturing, and commercialization with key partners.
  • Act as Program/Alliance Manager for collaborations. Provide project management support for clinical programs, ensuring consistent timelines, budgets, and reporting.
  • Mentor internal and external project managers to improve team integration, scenario planning, and cross-product analyses.
  • Foster project and program management skills within the organization by mentoring, sharing best practices, and maintaining relevant tools.
  • Collaborate with departmental leaders to identify projects and alliances requiring dedicated Project and Alliance Management oversight.
  • Manage and mentor seasoned Program and Alliance Management staff to ensure effective leadership and execution.

We seek candidates with the following qualifications:
  • A PhD or MD in relevant scientific discipline, with progressive pharmaceutical or biotech industry experience.
  • A minimum of 20 years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience spanning drug discovery, preclinical and clinical development, regulatory approvals, manufacturing, commercialization, and product introduction.
  • Significant program and project management experience leading complex initiatives with internal and external deliverables in a highly leveraged operating model required.
  • Proficient in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Alliance management experience preferred, particularly with large-scale partnerships across development, manufacturing, and commercialization.
  • Global health experience preferred, including familiarity with regulatory and access challenges in developing countries.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence decisions, build relationships, and collaborate effectively across the organization and externally.
